Contemporary Still Life & Botanical Drawing: A Creative Invitation
I’m so excited to invite you into the studio for a mindful, two-hour taster workshop at The Folde in Old Amersham. Hosted in their beautiful, light-filled first-floor space, this standalone session is a gentle introduction to the world of contemporary still life and botanical design—and a summer sneak peek at what’s to come in my autumn series, The Garden Archive.
Together, we’ll dive into my 3D Formula—Draw, Discover, Develop. Using a purely pencil-led toolkit, we’ll break through the fear of the blank page, translate seasonal plants and objects into deeply personal compositions, and build a mindful sketching ritual you can easily tuck into your travel bag all summer long.

What We’ll Explore
In this workshop, we’re bridging the gap between close observation and intentional design. Working from a curated collection of summer flowers, botanical elements, patterned saucers, and studio treasures, we will quiet the inner critic.
You'll discover that "close enough is good enough." We aren't aiming for rigid, perfect renders here; instead, we’ll focus entirely on the movement, energy, and joy of a wonderfully wobbly line.
What we'll focus on:
Authentic Material Road-Testing: Getting to know a limited palette of graphite and duo-colour pencils.
Loose, Searching Lines: Learning to let your hand move freely across the page without overthinking.
Value Contrast Storytelling: Finding out how to create mood and depth using simple tonal shifts.
What You’ll Take Home
You’ll leave the studio with a quiet mind, a re-energised practice, and tangible tools to keep creating at home:
A mindful collection of personal reference drawings in your new sketchbook.
A portable summer sketching ritual that fits into any bag.
Two tonally contrasting hero blueprints to inspire your art over the summer months.
A favourite phone-filter trick to instantly audit and check the balance of your design work.
Whether you are a complete beginner looking to break through creative inhibitions in a supportive space, or a practising creator wanting to bring a looser, more mindful rhythm to your sketchbook, you are so welcome here.
